ELLWOOD CITY – Gaetano “Guy” Calabro of Ellwood City recently published a children’s book, “The Birth of Baby Jesus: The First Noel – We Were There!”
It’s the story of the birth of Jesus from the annunciation to the presentation in the Temple told by the animals that were there.
“I thought it would be nice to hear the story from the animals that witnessed the First Christmas,” Calabro said.
In 2008, he started writing his book and then it took about five years to get it published.
Calabro always had a special affection for Christmas, and every Christmas he thinks about the manger scene under the family Christmas tree with all the animals around the baby Jesus.
“I wrote it to help children know more about Jesus,” he said.
A member of Divine Grace Holy Redeemer Parish, Calabroe helps with the food bank three days a week. He is well known in the Ellwood City area for public speaking and his work cooking and serving at a number of local churches.
Calabro dedicated his book to his four great-grandchildren: Jason, Ivaya, Christian and Tomas.
Born in California, Calabro lived in Ellwood City from 1939-53 and returned to the borough when he retired in 1998.
The book is available online at Rosedog books. The e-book is $11, the physical book is $16.
