(WTXL) — Several entities in southwest Georgia have experienced outages with telephone and internet service Wednesday morning.
Windstream confirmed Wednesday afternoon an outage with its customers:
Due to two separate network events, our Kinetic customers in South Georgia and Florida lost voice and broadband service at about 8:30 am ET. Some Windstream Enterprise customers are also affected. This is not a cyber event.
Service was restored for our Florida customers at 10:15 am ET. We are working to restore service to our Georgia customers as quickly as possible. We will provide updates as new information is available.
Impacted Windstream Enterprise customers should contact Repair at 800.600.5050 or visit the WEConnect Portal to create a case.
According to the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office at 9:20 am, it confirmed that wireless services were experiencing outages for calls and text messages.
It noted that the emergency SOS feature was working.
The sheriff’s office noted later Wednesday that some calls and text messages were being accepted and had been receiving 911 calls for the entire day. It added that the estimated restoration is by 3 am Thursday.
The Georgia Department of Health’s South Health District noted at 9:10 am its phone lines were down at its health departments in Turner, Lanier, Berrien and Cook counties.
The Grady County School District confirmed that at 11 am because of issues with its telephone carrier, all phones were down in its system.
The Colquitt County School District also said its phone services were down for all of its locations for incoming calls. It said as of 10:08 am that its carrier was working on the issue.
This is a developing story.
